Don't ask me why... I don't even read any Aquaman stuff!
I'm really bored so I re-imagined what Black Manta could've looked like if he was more practical.
He could be some awesome mercenary hiding in a nuclear submarine in the coldest and deepest depths of our oceans, selling his loyalty to some foreign warlord or dictator and having lots of fun with nuclear weapons. He'll also have practical skills such as cyber terrorism to manipulate a lot of our digital economy and other boring infrastructures. You know, what evil people do for money.
Helmet design inspired by B12 bombers and jet pilot pressure suits for those deep sea pressure goodness.
Interesting and admittedly very cool design, if a bit generic "Metal Gear Solid" super-soldiery with the plethora of ammo-pouches and the P90-looking gun. On the other hand, Black Manta swims around a lot and all that stuff and that very cool super-angular helmet does not look particularly hydrody[link].
Also, people who like Aquaman should not bother getting pissed anymore. The entire internet's idea of Aquaman appears to be informed solely by Challenge of the Superfriends, and if that doesn't make their heads explode, nothing else should bother them.
But metal gear's designer Yoji Shinkawa got the designs from actual military hardware, I don't know how you concluded that real military hardware came from video games made by Konami...
Angular objects aren't hydro/aerodynamic? Look up Stealth jet fighters. Look up Stealth submarines.
Each era has its own reinvention of super heroes and villains. Would the Adam West Batman look nearly as intimidating or practical as the Nolan's Batman?
